Registration is still open for Hospice of Acadiana's first-ever Saturday volunteer orientation on July 27.

Hospice says that the orientation will train members of the community who are interested in providing patient companionship and indirect patient support for those nearing end-of-life.

The opportunity is open to the public, but registration is required.

The event will be held from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Hospice of Acadiana offices at 2600 Johnston Street in Lafayette.

“To say volunteers play an integral part in the Hospice of Acadiana ministry would be a massive understatement,” explains Karl Broussard, CEO of Hospice of Acadiana. “The volunteers’ decision to serve others, to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, is what makes this hospice organization unique.”

Hospice says that during the session participants will learn about Hospice of Acadiana, how it serves terminal patients, and the different volunteer roles within the organization. Patient care will also be a main topic of discussion.

“Orientations have typically been held on weekdays. By hosting this training on a Saturday, we are hoping to give everyone an opportunity to give back” said Fawn Hernandez, Director of Volunteer Services. Hernandez explains, “There are two additional orientations scheduled for 2019, one in September and one in November, for those that want to get involved but aren’t available on July 27th.”

For information or to register for the orientation please contact Fawn Hernandez, Director of Volunteer Services, at 337-232-1234 or FHernandez@hospiceacadiana.com
