Louisiana State Police are now investigating an officer-involved shooting in Lafayette after being requested by the Lafayette Police Department.
The shooting took place Wednesday, July 15 at 5:30 pm after Lafayette Police tried to pull over a man who was wanted on warrants. State Police confirm that during the course of the traffic stop, the man fled on foot. Police chased him to an address on St. Bernadette Drive off Pont des Mouton Road.
State Police say that in that location, an altercation ensued, during which the man was shot.
The man fired at police and LPD returned fire, a Lafayette Police spokesman says.
The man was brought to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition Wednesday night. No officers were injured.
State Police could not comment on details regarding the man firing at police or how many officers discharged their weapons. There is also no information on the victim at this time.
State Police will release further information when it becomes available. The investigation is ongoing.
