UPDATE: Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center says that the stroke screening event being offered on Saturday, November 21, has been canceled.

The free stroke screenings were scheduled to take place at the Burdin Riehl Center in Lafayette.

The cancellation, they say, is due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the state.

Ochsner is reminding everyone of stroke signs and symptoms. The health system says that everyone should be aware of the acronym B.E.F.A.S.T.

Stroke signs and symptoms that should prompt patients to call 9-1-1 for emergency medical attention are:

B--balance, sudden loss of balance, severe dizziness

E--eyes, sudden loss of vision

F--facial drooping

A--arm or leg weakness, numbness

S--slurred speech, unable to speak, confusion

T--time to get to the hospital.
