A Lafayette nursing home is celebrating the arrival of their coronavirus vaccine.

Residents and employees at Rosewood Assisted Living received their first doses on Wednesday.

They say the vaccine is a light at the end of a long tunnel.

"These residents have gone almost a year now with minimum contact with family members [and with] trips outside," explained Seth Guilbeaux, Executive Director at Rosewood. "To see them get that hope again to be able to get back to their lives as it was before the pandemic is exciting to see."

Guilbeaux urges everyone to get the vaccine when they can.

"We're excited about it. I'm excited, the residents are definitely excited about trying to get back on the path of what used to be normal."

Currently in Louisiana the vaccine is only available to select individuals, including those 70 years of age or older, and first responders.
