Lafayette Utilities System says they will begin restoration efforts to customers affected by Hurricane Laura once wind speeds have dropped below 39 miles per hour.
The company says this ensures it is safe for LUS and mutual aid crews to begin assessment and restoration work.
Starting with restoration of transmission lines to distribution substations, LUS says they and mutual aid crews will work to restore services to the greatest number of customers as soon as possible.
As of 6:00 am, on Thursday, August 27, approximately 12,000 LUS customers are without power.
To report an outage, call LUS at (337) 291-9200 or for fallen power lines or downed power poles, call LUS at (337) 291-5700.
LUS reminds customers to not touch or drive over any fallen power lines.
