LAFAYETTE, La. — The Lafayette Community M.I.Brary is raising funds to help children who have had to drop out of music lessons due to financial strains caused by coronavirus restrictions.

The group's founder, Dr. Ryan Cazares says he has teamed up with Tim Benson, owner of the Music Academy of Acadiana, to form the M.I.Brary Music Lessons Relief Fundraiser.

Lafayette Public Library's M.I.Brary program lets would-be musicians check out musical instruments.

The fundraiser aims to raise $6400, the amount it would cost to pay for a month’s worth of lessons for the 50 children who have dropped out of the Academy.

Cazares says one last fundraising push will be made with a live streaming concert featuring acts such as Sweet Cecilia, Major Handy, Sailor Mouth, and Dr. C & the Gris Gris.

The concert will be aired on Thursday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Facebook.com/mibrary.

You can donate to the cause at bit.ly/mibraryrelief or to @mibrary on Venmo.
