LAFAYETTE, La. — The Lafayette Fire Department and its hazmat team responded to a gas leak at the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and South Orange Street on Wednesday.
Traffic was blocked and drivers were encouraged to find an alternate route.
According to Alton Trahan, a spokesperson with LFD, the Lafayette Utilities System was doing repair work on a water line and accidentally hit a gas line that caused a leak in 2” main.
The LFD Hazmat Team were on scene monitoring the leak while Atmos officials worked to repair the line.
The incident was cleared around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon and all repairs were completed.
The Lafayette Police Department was also on scene and blocked traffic on Louisiana Avenue at the intersections of South Magnoila and South Sterling Street.
