UPDATE: Suspects arrested in shooting that injured two teenage victims

UPDATE: Lafayette, LA. — One of the suspects responsible, Dekial Alexander (24) of Lafayette, was arrested on January 19, 2023, on a warrant for the following charges: attempted second degree murder (2 counts), simple criminal damage to property and illegal discharge of a firearm. Alexander was transported and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

On January 23, 2023, a second suspect, juvenile male (16) of Lafayette, was arrested on a juvenile warrant for the following charges: attempted second degree murder (2 counts), simple criminal damage to property and illegal discharge of a firearm. The juvenile suspect was placed in Lafayette Juvenile Detention Home.

At approximately 6:42 pm on January 18, 2023, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the scene of a shooting incident that took place in the 2300 block of Moss Street.

According to Sgt. Robin Green, there are two juvenile victims. Both victims are listed in stable condition and have been transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Upon further investigation, the scene revealed that the victims were in a parking lot when a verbal altercation ensued between the victims and occupants of an unknown vehicle. One of the occupants of the vehicle began to shoot in the direction of the victims, resulting in striking them both before fleeing the area in an unknown direction.

Sgt. Green also tells KATC that more information about what occurred is being gathered at this time.
