One person is dead following a shooting on Edison Street in Lafayette.
Police say that on June 19 at around 8:45 am, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to a shooting in the 700 Blk of Edison St. Once on scene, officers located one victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Medical assistance was provided to the victim prior to him being transported to a local hospital. Once at the hospital, the victim, Rico Thomas, 27, succumbed to his wound and was pronounced dead.
Police say that the suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
This investigation is ongoing.
