LAFAYETTE, La. - Lafayette General Medical Center held a press briefing on the increasing concerns around COVID-19.

At this time, there are no suspected cases of COVID-19 in Louisiana, Mississippi or at any Lafayette General Health facilities or partner facilities, according to hospital officials.

LGMD Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Garabet "Garo" Akoghlanian and LGH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Amanda Logue were available to answer questions.

"We are a unique community with a lot of international travel from our industry as well as our culture that people like to visit," said Logue. "It's just a matter of keeping up with symptoms, informing the community to look out for these symptoms, and whom they're coming in contact with. Not just themselves for travel, but people around them that have been traveling to those communities. Certainly patients that otherwise have chronic illnesses and are immunosupressed need to be especially careful with traveling and whom they are surrounding themselves with. "It goes back to the same prevention measures for general infection, the same things we would do to educate the community on the the flu."
