The Krewe of Rio has canceled their planned 2021 Mardi Gras ball.
"2020 has certainly been a record year for chaos yet the Krewe of Rio had persevered in Mardi Gras planning despite the uncertainty… but even with the best planning and intentions, it became overwhelmingly apparent with the restrictions still in place, and the ball date looming just around the corner, the Krewe wasn’t going to be able to create the “Rio Rocks” type of experience members and guests have come to expect over the years," a release from the Krewe states.
The Krewe won't disappoint anyone, so they're looking ahead to 2022, the release states.
"But wait… what about the King and Queen?? Worry not! Gil and Tanya Zaunbrecher will continue their reign into the 2021/2022 season! Both King and Queen have been mastering their float wave and crown wearing whilst retrieving their mail and picking up take-out food during each phase of 2020. Will they get to “throw you something” in a parade in 2021? That is still in question as the Krewe awaits guidelines from the city and state," the release states.
