UPDATE: Johnston Street has reopened after a gas leak closed the road for five hours on Thursday.

A road construction crew struck a gas line this morning, forcing the closure of Johnston Street between Guidry Street and Southcity Parkway, south of Acadiana Mall.
Lafayette firefighters are on standby at the scene.
Lafayette Police say work on the gas line is being done and as soon as it is fixed the roadway will open back up. But, LPD says, they "do not have an ETA on when the road will reopen."
