Girl Scout Cookie season officially launched today.

And the Girl Scouts of Louisiana - Pines to the Gulf is celebrating along with members nationwide with brand new cookie packaging and a new lemon cookie.

A kick-off gathering was held on Tuesday at Girl Scout headquarters in Lafayette. There, guests were treated to a cookie tasting where a brand new lemon cookie was revealed for the first time.

Lemon-Ups will be available in select areas and are a crispy lemon cookie baked with eight inspiring Girl Scout messages.

Buyers will also notice refreshed cookie packaging this year.

Girl Scouts says the new look emphasizes the program and includes updated images of girl scouts experiencing what scouting has to offer.

According to the Girl Scouts, their cookie program helps to teach girls about entrepreneurship and learn essential life skills like money management, public speaking, and decision making.

Cookies purchased locally help fund experiences and leadership opportunities for members.

"On Friday, the girls will begin selling the cookies in the Acadiana area and other areas in the state," Dianne Trim Manager of Marketing and Communications for Girls Scouts Louisiana Pines to the Gulf
said at the launch event on Tuesday.
