UPDATE (8 p.m.): All gas has been restored to Scott residents and Old Spanish Trail is expected to be open around 9 p.m., according to Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier.

No one was injured as a result of the accident, and the Scott Fire Department thanked residents for their cooperation.

The Scott Fire Department responded Friday afternoon to a leaking gas line along Old Spanish Trail.

The leak was across from 1301 Old Spanish Trail, which is St. Peter & Paul School. Students sheltered in place, while parents were asked to not pick up students as there was no access to the school at the time.

Firefighters on scene monitored the school and the air quality. The public was asked to avoid the area, and a portion of Old Spanish Trail between Alfred St. and Westgate Rd. was closed until further notice for crews to repair the line.

The City of Scott says the gas main break affected all gas customers within Scott City Limits. Because of the reduced pressure all gas customers were requested to stop using gas appliances as a precaution.

A Gas Main Break Advisory was in place effective immediately after the accident and remained in effect until pressure was restored. By around 2:15, crews had been able to temporarily secure the gas line and the situation was under control. However, the gas advisory remained in place and Old Spanish Trail was still closed as crews worked to repair the line.
