A former Iberia Parish firefighter and Lafayette musician is facing arson charges in Lafayette.
Investigators say Blayze Viator is accused of setting a car on fire with a Molotov cocktail. The incident happened on New Year's Day on Gordon Street in Downtown. Viator was not employed by the fire department at the time of the fire.
A warrant was issued for Viator and he turned himself in this week.
"Fortunately the damage was minimal and it didn't totally engulf the vehicle or the home that the car was parked to that was occupied as well," said Alton Trahan with the Lafayette Fire Department.
KATC Investigates uncovered a restraining order was filed against Viator days after the fire.
The accuser said someone knocked on her door alerting her to a fire underneath her car. The victim found a beer bottle smoking near the gas tank.
According to the restraining order, investigators reviewed surveillance video and the victim was able to identify Viator as the suspect.
A hearing for the restraining order against Viator is scheduled for February 20.
He remains in jail tonight.
