LAFAYETTE, La. - An Eagle Scout project is helping out a local church.

Simon Miller with Troop 365 of the Boy Scouts of America is leading a project at the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette.

The project is essentially taking out a playground and leveling the land to build a paved patio that can be used for gathering, service and worship.

The group worked for several hours Saturday and anticipate it to be completed by Sunday.

Simon is a 17-year-old senior at Southside High School and has been involved in Scouting since the first-grade.

"I like it because I can leave a lasting impression not only on myself and how I handle myself and getting good leadership skills, but I can always come back to this church and say, 'Hey, I made that,'" Miller stated.
