Disability Awareness Annual Awards call for nominations

LAFAYETTE, La - The Mayor-President's Office Awareness Committee for Citizens with Disabilities (ACCD) is calling for nominations for their annual awards ceremony.

The awards are given to recognize individuals and organizations in Lafayette who are working to promote awareness, inclusion and progress for Lafayette's disabled community.

Nominations will be accepted in the following twelve categories:

Distinguished Merit Award Educator of the Year Award

Employer of the Year Award Family of the Year Award

Media Award Outstanding Direct Support Professional Award

Service Animal of the Year Award Outstanding Individual with a Disability Award

Veteran of the Year Award Veteran of the Year Award

Youth of the Year Award The Vickie Nettles Advocacy Award

"These awards are one of my favorite events of the year," said Liam Doyle, Lafayette Consolidated Government's Disability Awareness Coordinator. "It is with these awards that we are given the privilege to recognize the truly amazing people who work so tirelessly to help move Lafayette's disabled community forward either by direct advocacy or helping someone with a disability to obtain their goals."

All winning nominations will also be submitted for the 2019 Sate Gold Awards presented by the Governor's Office of Disability Affairs.

To be eligible, individual nominees must either live or work in Lafayette Parish and organizations for nomination must be located within Lafayette Parish.

The nomination deadline is October 4, 2019.
