Covenant United Methodist Church is helping out their neighbors in Southwest Louisiana each day this week.

Volunteers are accepting donations and loading a truck full at the church, located at 300 E. Martial Avenue in Lafayette, to send to areas affected by Hurricane Laura.

The truck will be filled up from 3-7 p.m. and will leave at 7 a.m. the next morning each day through Friday. Donations will be going to a different location each day.

Volunteers are asking for sports drinks, which will be donated to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, bottled water, work gloves, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, garbage bags, and lots of insect repellent and sunscreen.

Monetary donations are also being accepted at covenantumc.org - just make a note that it's for the disaster relief fund.

Organizers hope those donating feel a sense of pride, and says the effort is a simple way for the community to help out.

"They're sitting at home, wondering what they can do," said Donna Guidry. "They saw that we were taking these donations, and they said now we have something we can do."
