On Thursday, Brookshire Grocery Company and Hormel Foods announced a donation of $100,000 in protein to food banks across Louisiana.

Among the recipients of the donation included FoodNet Food Bank, a non-profit food bank run by Catholic Charities of Acadiana.

The donations of pork loin and peanut butter will be presented to food banks and food pantries in communities where Brookshire's, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market and FRESH by Brookshire's stores operate.

Brookshire and Hormel Foods held a virtual event on November 19 to announce the donation.

The donation, they say, is a part of Hormel's "Hams for Hunger" program which involves a partnership between Hormel Foods and grocery retailers across the country. Hormel says that more than $15 million dollars in hams have been donated over the years, feeding tens of thousands of families.

Catholic Charities of Acadiana's Chief Communications Officer thanked Brookshire and Hormel for their donation to help those who continue to recover from COVID-19 and Hurricanes Laura and Delta.

"The COVID-19 pandemic and two hurricanes have made it very hard for families, especially those who have not experienced these sort of disasters before," Broussard said. "Thank you very much to Brookshire and Hormel for pouring out for those who need it most."

"Our company is committed to supporting hunger relief in the communities we serve, and we are so grateful to have this partnership with Hormel Foods to help make a difference," said Brad Brookshire, Chairman and CEO for Brookshire Grocery Co. "We care about our communities and are committed to doing what we can to lessen the impact of COVID-19 and slow the spread. We know people are in need this holiday season and that the food banks are seeing increased demand for resources in all of the communities we serve."

Hormel Foods will donate more than 55,000 hams to charities nationwide through the Hams for Hunger program this holiday season.
