The Borden Dairy facility, located on Bertrand Drive, was closed recently for disinfecting after at least two employees there tested positive for COVID-19.
Here's a statement we received from the company:
“The safety and well-being of our people is our top priority. As soon as we became aware that an employee had tested positive, we made free rapid testing available for all other employees at that location and compensated them for their time away from work. The facility was temporarily closed for professional cleaning and sanitization. We are continuing our strict wellness protocol, which includes temperature checking for all upon arrival at the plant, mask wearing, social distancing and numerous other safety measures. Furthermore, according to the FDA and CDC, there is no evidence of anyone contracting the virus after touching food, food containers or food packaging.”
NOTE: This story is about the Borden Dairy facility on Bertrand Drive. That facility is in no way associated with the Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe on Johnston Street, and this story has nothing to do with the Ice Cream Shoppe. In our 5 p.m. newscast, we incorrectly showed video of the Ice Cream Shoppe during the reading of this story. We're very sorry for that error.
