The Simien and Miniex Law Firm in Lafayette has reopened their memorial scholarship applications to Acadiana students.

The law firm says that, in addition to the scholarship award, new senior applicants eligible to vote and entering college could receive $500 to cover college expenses as part of their Voter Registration Drawing.

The decision to include the $500 drawing, according to the firm, is due to the disruption caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

To enter into the $500 drawing students may send a copy of their NEW voter registration card along with their contact information to 104 Rue Iberville, Lafayette, Louisiana 70508.

Students needing assistance in registering to vote are asked to contact the firm's office at (337) 269-0222.

The drawing for the $500 will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020.

The Virginia Miniex and Margo St. Julian Simien Scholarship Fund was created by the Miniex and Simien families to award scholarships to high school graduates working to further their education.

The scholarship honors the beliefs of Mrs. Virginia Miniex and Mrs. Margo St. Julien Simien.

The law firm says that the two women believed that, "obtaining a good education is pivotal in a young person's life and that it creates a solid foundation to prepare them for the future."
