On the clock, you'll find Doctor Justin Ardoin tending to some of the most critically ill in our community at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette. He specializes in Pulmonology and Critical Care.
"I've been kind of seeing all aspects of coronavirus patients both patients admitted to the regular medical floor as well as the critically ill patients in the ICU center," said Ardoin.
At the end of his shifts, you might be surprised to find he doesn't stray too far. His after work hobby has become the talk of his coworkers.
"They think its hilarious that I get off work to fish for a little while in the ponds right here locally," said Ardoin.
Fishing in the Lourdes ponds is technically not allowed, but the doctor's hard work has earned him a few special privileges.
"There were a couple early run ins with security. They're very nice but fishing is not allowed in the hospital ponds. After my experience with security, I reached out to hospital administration and explained I practice strict catch and release and they've been nice enough to allow me that permission," said Ardoin.
True to his South Louisiana roots, Ardoin said he'll always turn to fishing when he needs to decompress.
"Out here I can be by myself with my thoughts, think about nothing medicine related, clear my head before going home. So I step out here, make a few casts, feel better about the day, and go home," he said.
