UPDATE: The suspect in a November officer-involved shooting has died, State Police confirm.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is assisting the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office to investigate a shooting incident involving a JDPSO deputy.
The incident happened November 27 at about 9 a.m. at a house off La. 101 north of Lacassine. Deputies were called to a report of shots fired inside the home.
Shortly after arrival, officers encountered 56-year-old Jeffery Smiley holding a weapon outside the residence. Smiley was directed to drop the weapon but refused. At least one deputy discharged his weapon, striking Smiley.
