The State Fire Marshal’s Office says that three teenage boys have been arrested for setting fire to a home in one of their neighborhoods.

Deputies say a 16-year-old and two 13-year-olds were arrested on one count of Simple Arson and released into the custody of their guardians.

In the evening hours of September 21, the Elton Fire Department contacted the SFM to request assistance determining the origin and cause of a house fire located in the 1200 block of Main Street.

Deputies learned the home was for sale and vacant, but that firefighters found the back door open upon arrival.

After assessing the scene and collecting witness statements, the SFM says that investigators determined the fire started in a second story bedroom.

Duputies say one of the teens, who lives on the same street, was identified as a suspect in the case.

In an interview with SFM investigators, the teen allegedly admitted to being in the home with the two other boys to smoke.

In additional interviews with all three suspects, deputies say they learned all three were involved in setting fire to a mattress and were unsuccessful in their attempts to extinguish the fire they created.
