A Jeff Davis Parish teenager was killed Wednesday following a single-vehicle crash on Gro Racca Road near Willie Road.
Louisiana State Police Troop D says they responded to the incident at around 12:15 pm on Wednesday, July 17.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Ford pickup was traveling east on Gro Racca Road when it ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned. A passenger riding in the bed of a pickup truck was ejected from the vehicle as a result of the crash.
Troopers say the victim, identified as 18-year-old Adam Wyatt Sandhoff of Iowa, was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries. Sandhoff later died of those injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, who has not been identified due to age, was properly restrained at the time of the crash and has been cited for careless operation and no driver's license.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
State Police add that traveling on a roadway in the bed of a pickup is dangerous and is illegal on interstate highways and for passengers under the age of twelve.
