Softball tournament to benefit cancer victim's family

A Jeff Davis Parish community is coming together to help a family impacted by the loss of a wife and mother in the fight against cancer.

A co-ed softball tournament at Dickie Champman Sports Complex in Lake Arthur has been organized to benefit the family of 34-year-old Winter Michelle LaVergne.

LaVergne was diagnosed with cancer in July and battled the diagnosis which affected her brain, liver, lungs, adrenal gland, bones, colon, ovaries and spine, according to the Jennings Daily News.

Winter lost her fight with cancer on August 17. She leaves behind a husband, three daughters and a newborn son.

The Community of Hathaway will hold the co-ed softball tournament this weekend, Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15.

Buy-in for the benefit is $20 with all proceeds going to the LaVergne family.
