Residents and staff of the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings began receiving COVID-19 vaccinations this week.
The home is one of the first long-term care facilities in the state to administer vaccinations to residents and staff.
Teams from CVS and Walgreens will make three visits to ensure all those living and working at the facility are vaccinated. A second booster will be given in a month.
According to the Advocate, who spoke with the facility's administrator Matt Duhon, 108 residents and staff had received their first shots on Monday, December 28. Second doses are scheduled for January 25, along with 255 additional first shots to staff and residents.
Duhon tells the newspaper that he is unsure of when visitation restrictions will be changed, but that the vaccinations bring hope to the veterans, staff, and their families.
"It's been a tough year. It's been a long year. It's been challenging for everybody here," Duhon said.
