Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Jennings man, accusing him of beating his girlfriend while they were in a car. She had to jump from the moving vehicle to get away, deputies say.
Matthew James Alexander, 38, was arrested at his home on a warrant for domestic abuse battery and false imprisonment. No bond has been set for his release.
The warrant was issued for an incident that happened Sunday on Interstate 10. The victim told deputies that she and her boyfriend got into an argument while they were driving on the highway. She said he hit her in the face, and then wouldn't stop to let her out of the vehicle. After about 40 minutes she was able to jump from the vehicle to get away, deputies say. The woman had bruises on her face, and busted blood vessels in her left eye, deputies say.
Deputies obtained a warrant, and found Alexander at his home the next day.
