A Friday morning traffic stop in Jennings led to a chase throughout the city that police say, at one point, reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
The Jennings Police Department says the incident happened around 12:30 am on May 8 when officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for traffic violations.
Officers say the vehicle, allegedly driven by Jeremy Smither, sped off and began leading them on a chase through city limits.
During the chase, officers say Smither allegedly discarded narcotics from the vehicle.
The chase ended outside of city limits on Highway 102 with speeds reaching well over 100 miles per hour, according to the department.
Smithers was arrested after voluntarily stopping his vehicle.
Officers say that a search of the vehicle recovered approximately 1 pound of high grade marijuana, suspected heroin, a digital scale, ammunition and firearm magazines.
Along the route taken during the chase, the department says additional bags of marijuana and suspected heroin were located.
Smithers was transported to the Jennings Police Department and was later released due to the closure of the Jeff Davis Parish Jail due to COVID-19.
