MORGAN CITY, La — Last year David Spencer got to work on an investigation.
He was determined to prove that his boss, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith, is Santa Claus.
The investigation remains open today as Spencer continues to try and prove that he is right.
He gathered hours of interviews and statements from scores of people.
"As the evidence mounted up, it came to a point where we had to come forward and let people know some answers," Spencer said.
But what exactly are those answers?
Would people actually take him seriously?
These questions kept plaguing Spencer throughout his investigation and especially when he decided to go public.
"I think I've come to the point where I'm at peace with it," Spencer said. "I think, at the beginning, I needed to convince adults that he really was Santa. What I've come to learn through the investigation is that even those who say, "Oh, he's Sheriff Smith. He isn't Santa Claus." They're actually helping out. They're providing Santa with cover so he can operate for another year. I can live with that...but like I said...the children...the children know."
Case in point...

Adults, Spencer said, are all over the place when it comes to picking out which Santa they like the best.
For the kids, thought, there is only one.
"They identify at a rate of 98 percent. That's just crazy that they identify, this man, Blaise Smith as Santa Claus."
KATC was not able to corroborate Spencer's story, but did find out that there are several unexplained happenings at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.
"It's just another thing that I see where I'm like, this place is really different with Santa--I mean Sheriff Smith," Spencer said.
