New Iberia Senior High School is coming together and inviting the public to remember a student who was shot and killed earlier this month.

Iberia Parish School Board member and former New Iberia Councilman Raymond "Shoe-Do" Lewis says the New Iberia Senior High School will be holding a vigil on Wednesday for his son Garron Lewis.

Lewis, who was 17-years-old, was shot and killed on August 16, 2019. According to police, Garron was found dead in a vehicle that was parked on Audry Street at its intersection with Rene Street.

Lewis says that all Acadiana high schools are welcome. He hopes the vigil helps heal the community as he says many area students are still grieving this loss.

The vigil will happen on Wednesday August 28, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at New Iberia Senior High. The vigil is expected to take place outside but if weather changes, they will move the venue.

Funeral services for Garron Lewis were held over the weekend.
