ASRC Energy Services Omega in the Port of Iberia is set to lay off more than 100 workers in June.
According to a WARN Notice with the Louisiana Work Force Commission, ASRC will lay off 180 workers on June 5, 2020. The notice was filed on April 17, 2020 due to the closure of the business and facility.
The company's website states that Omega has fabrication, construction and technical divisions at its 75-acre facility that support onshore, offshore, and onsite activities for the Gulf of Mexico, Gulf Coast and other domestic and international locations. Omega provides services to the upstream and midstream oil and gas, chemical, refining, drilling, utilities, and manufacturing industries.
In the letter to the workforce, ASRC says they are taking these employment actions because of COVID-19-related business circumstances that were "not reasonably foreseeable."
"We would like to have given more notice of this action, but were unable to do so because of how quickly our operations were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization’s pandemic declaration on March 11th, the President’s declaration of a national emergency on March 13th, state and local orders, and other related governmental announcements and actions, which greatly impacted our business negatively."
Additional layoffs could be possible from the company in late July and in the month of August.
