A New Iberia native and current NFL player is giving back to his Acadiana hometown.

Dionte Spencer is a wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, but he grew up and went to school more than 1,200 miles away in Iberia Parish.

And now he's giving back to his community.

Spencer made a $5,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs in the city. While he wasn't present Friday to present the donation, his family was there to do the honors and celebrate.

"He has continued to give back, and he will continue to give back," said Diontae's mother, Vanessa Spencer. "Anything that they need here in New Iberia, in the community or the New Iberia Boys & Girl's Club, he will be an asset."
