With another hurricane barreling towards Lake Charles, those who survived Laura find themselves again, hoping for a best-case scenario.
Like many Calcasieu Parish families, the Brown family has made Acadiana their home since Hurricane Laura. With Hurricane Delta expected to make the same path, they’re hoping for the best.
"You'll appreciate what you got and what you lost and you won't want anything else," said Joseph Brown. Brown is a high school junior staying with family in Opelousas.
He hasn't been back to his home since Laura hit in August.
"This is my first time ever going to a new school. I've never really met new people like that. I've been with the same group of people my whole life so now I'm trying to fit in and adapt,” said Brown.
Brown's mother has been going back and forth to Lake Charles to help her parents, but he's not been able to go with her.
"My grandparents lost a lot. She's been trying to help them out. My uncle lost his house so they've been helping him out. It's a lot of stuff and everybody's just trying to help each other out right now. I barely see my grandparents. I just saw my grandparents from when Laura hit because they're here. I haven't seen them in a while,” Brown added.
With another hurricane headed for his hometown, Brown hopes this one will have less of an impact.
“I just really want to go back home,” said Brown.
Hurricane Delta is expected to make landfall on Friday.
