George Floyd had friends here in Acadiana. They held a protest Saturday in Jeff Davis Parish, honoring his life while calling for justice.

Hundreds of protesters in Lake Arthur gathered from all over in support of George Floyd. They marched through Main Street for 20 minutes then returned to a park where they rallied, demanding justice.

"Every race, every color, it didn't matter. We screamed 'George Floyd', 'No justice, no peace.' I hope it gets better in the world, I hope we get somewhere," said Chris Jones.

"Peaceful. Everybody came out here, we made our voice, we made a stance for Uncle and we just want to keep it up, we want to keep his legacy and we want it to live on. We don't want his death to be in vain," said Devante Duhon.

For Devante Duhon and Chris Jones, both who knew Floyd personally, seeing him take his last breath on video was heartbreaking. They want to be an advocate for him and many others.

"It's bittersweet because the simple fact is, I wish he was still here. But his voice has to carry on and what better way to do it but his family," said Duhon.

"It was a good turnout. I'm happy about it. I know Floyd is happy and know his family will be happy we represented for him all the way over here in Louisiana, one of his second homes," said Jones.
