A 38-year-old Ville Platte woman is accused of second degree murder following a Thursday night shooting.
On October 1, 2020 at 8:45 p.m., officers with the Ville Platte Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 700 block of South Soileau Street. Upon arrival officers learned that the victim was transported by family members to the hospital, according to Chief Neal Lartigue.
Police say the shooting was a result of a disturbance that occurred at the residence and that there had been an ongoing argument between multiple parties for some time.
During the investigation of the crime scene, officers were notified that the victim had been shot once in the chest and died at the hospital.
Gertie Scott was arrested on a charge of second degree murder. Scott was booked into the Ville Platte Jail and later transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail where she remains incarcerated with no bond.
The incident remains under investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
