A Ville Platte man was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 13 in Evangeline Parish.

State Police say the crash occurred after 6:00 am near Gilbert Road and claimed the life 31-year-old Joseph Lee Willis.

An investigation revealed that Willis was traveling south on LA 13 when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and entered into the path of a Peterbilt 18-wheeler.

According to troopers, the 18-wheeler driver took evasive action by steering left as Willis swerved back into the southbound lane striking the 18-wheeler head-on.

Troopers say that Willis was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was restrained and was not injured.

Toxicology samples were taken from the drivers and results are pending.

This crash remains under investigation.
