Tonight, the Evangeline Parish Police Jury voted to approve a special election for the vacant Ville Platte City Marshal's seat.
The seat is vacant after former City Marshal Ronald Doucet died earlier this month.
Juror Ryan Ardoin said that the Jury appointed Doucet's wife, Lisa Doucet, to fill the role until the election is held.
That election is set for April 4 of next year. Qualifying dates are January 8-10, 2020.
Marshal Ronald Doucet died on October 13. He was the first African American to hold the position and led the Marshal's office for 11 years.
