A Mansura man drowned at the Crooke Creek Recreational Park Sunday.

An Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy was doing his normal routine patrol on the 1300 Block of Sandy Beach Drive near the beach area when he was notified of a drowning person needing help, a spokesman said.

The deputy called search and rescue, and a rescuer swam to where the drowning victim was last seen. The rescuer found an unresponsive man, and towed him to the beach.

Acadian Ambulance Medics immediately attempted to resuscitate the man using CPR but were unable to revive him, the spokesman said.

Lester Keller, 28, was pronounced dead from drowning by an Evangeline Parish Coroner.
