Inmate escapes briefly from Evangeline Parish

An Evangeline Parish inmate is back in jail today after briefly escaping Sunday.

At about 5 p.m., jailers noticed a prisoner was unaccounted for during a head count.

Jailers immediately confirmed Jeffery Rubin, 35, wasn't there. Rubin was last known to be wearing an orange jumpsuit, black do-rag, with a pair of blue and black Air Jordans. Rubin left the property in an unknown direction before discarding his orange jumpsuit.

Rubin was originally being held for Armed Robbery and Criminal Damage to Property. Numerous Deputies were called out to assist in locating Rubin, and within a couple of hours after his escape, Rubin was returned to the jail without incident, a release states.

Rubin was booked with Simple escape, the release states.
