The City of Ville Platte distributed masks to residents on Thursday at the Civic Center.

Free masks were available in packs of five, and city officials said that residents now have "no more reasons not to wear a mask."

Mayor Jennifer Vidrine is continuing to ask residents to stay home as much as possible, wear a mask, avoid large gatherings, and adhere to the city's curfew.

"It's about us being good neighbors and taking care of ourselves, and just being good human beings and helping one another," said Vidrine of today's giveaway.

As of Thursday, Evangeline Parish was reporting 44 cases of COVID-19 and remains the only parish in the region to report no deaths.

The CDC recommends that people wear a face mask or covering when in public.
