Arrest warrants have now been issued following an incident in Basile last week.
As we reported on Wednesday, the Basile Police Department has been investigating a report of shots fired near the Basile Housing projects. The investigation started with a report of the theft of two four-wheelers and a trailer from Doctor Bobby Avenue in Basile.
While the officers were searching the area for the stolen ATVs, they got a call of gunshots nearby. The officers went to the Basile Housing Authority, where witnesses told them that two large groups of people had been fighting. A group of six to eight young men had fled the scene together in one vehicle, shooting a gun into the air, police say.
The officers learned that one of the people involved in the fight had allegedly stolen a truck in Ville Platte, and the truck was driven to Basile. That same truck allegedly was used to steal the ATVs, Basile Police say. The truck ran out of gas and was abandoned by the thieves.
Basile Police currently are looking for several people named in arrest warrants who are accused in the incident.
