Voters in the Village of Pine Prairie have approved a two-percent sales tax.

In a landslide, 97% of voters approved of the tax that would go to funding operations and capital improvements, construction, maintenance, and repair of public streets and roadways in the village.

Shall the Village of Pine Prairie, State of Louisiana (the “Village”), under the provisions of the constitution and other statutory authority, be authorized to levy and collect a tax of two percent (2%) (the “Tax”) ($135,000 is expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year) for a period of ten (10) years, beginning April 1, 2019, upon the sale at retail, the use, the lease or rental, the consumption, and the storage for use or consumption, of tangible personal property and on sales of services in the Village, all as defined by law, with the proceeds of the Tax (after paying the reasonable and necessary costs and expenses of collecting and administering the Tax) to be dedicated as follows: 50% for funding operations and capital improvements of the Village and 50% exclusively for the purpose of construction, maintenance and repair of public streets and roadways within the Village and the authority to fund the proceeds of the Tax into bonds for the purposes stated herein and for related capital improvements within the Village in the manner provided by law?
