Anslum has been sheriff since last year, when retiring sheriff Mark Hebert appointed him as a replacement.

Also in St. Mary Parish, Eric Melancon has been elected coroner, defeating Liantor Albert 59 percent to 41 percent.

St. Mary Parish voters rejected a bid by parish councilmen to increase pay for their position; 75 percent of voters said no.

Voters in Fire Protection District No. 11 approved a 12.82 mill tax that supports operations in the district. The tax raises about $278,000 annually; the voters agreed to continue the tax for 10 years.
