In Iberia Parish, the race for sheriff will be going to a runoff.
That contest will see Tommy Romero and Murphy Meyers. Romero received 35 percent of the vote while Meyers received 23 percent. Both candidates are Republican.
Tomm Romero shed a tear, thanked the parish, and his mother during a speech at his party, "We will continue working as hard as possible for the next month so that everyone knows about my 38 years of law enforcement experience." Romero said.
Murphy Meyers stood by a large group of family friends. He is ready to continue campaigning. "We start again tomorrow, it'll be a new race. I don't see any need to change." Meyers said.
Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard has clinched a second term in office.
Richard won reelection outright, taking 66 percent of the vote in Saturday's primary. Runner-up Ronnie Miguez, who was making his fifth run for the seat, took 19 percent of the vote. Parish councilman Joel Dugas received 15 percent of the vote.
