Opelousas Police investigating shooting, suspect in custody

The Opelousas Police are investigating a shooting that left two injured.

According to Chief Leblanc, officers were called out to a shooting in the 800 block of Jefferson Street at approximately 7:00p.m.

A male and female were injured in the shooting and are being treated at a local hospital. The male victim suffered serious to critical injuries and the female had a non-life-threatening injury to the lower leg.

The suspected shooter, 20-year-old Isiah Pickney of Opelousas, was taken into custody when initial responding officers arrived on the scene. Pickney will be booked into the St. Landry Parish jail on the following charges.

  • Attempted Second Degree Murder (2 Counts)
  • Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property (2 Counts)
  • Illegal Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Illegal use of a dangerous weapon or instrumentalities

Opelousas police have investigated two shootings over the past three days. Officers said they are aggressively working these cases to make sure those responsible are brought to justice.
