A United Airlines flight from Cancun, Mexico, en route to Houston was diverted to New Orleans Saturday after the Boeing 737experienced what airline officials called a "mechanical issue."
Flight 1832 landed safely at Louis Armstrong International at 10:19 a.m. after departing Cancun at 8:40 a.m. EST (7:40 a.m. CST), according to FlightAware.
Upon clearing Customs and Border Protection, the 107 passengers are scheduled to depart MSY around 1:00 p.m. on a new aircraft to Houston, scheduled to arrive shortly after 2 p.m.
According to FOX 8 in New Orleans, no injuries were reported and it's unclear at this time what type of mechanical issue caused the diversion.
The pilot made a statement to passengers over the plane's loudspeaker, indicating that there was "a contaminant in the fuel and that one of the plane's engines needed to be cut off," FOX 8 reports.
