Storm damage reported in Opelousas, shelter open for residents

Winds kicked up in Opelousas Friday evening as the city took the brunt of Hurricane Delta.

Electricity is out to 456 Entergy customers as of 7:45 p.m.

A shelter operated by the American Red Cross is open at the Opelousas Civic Center, 1638 Creswell Lane. Several dozen took refuge at the shelter.

Photos submitted to KATC-TV by @Busyliz113 on Twitter showed a number of tree limbs that fell on her parents' home.

The National Weather Service recorded a peak wind gust of 75 mph around 9 p.m.
