Louisiana State Police are asking drivers to avoid unnecessary travel in North and Central Louisiana as a second winter system moves into the state.

On Wednesday, February 16, state police closed several roadways due to winter weather conditions.

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and Louisiana State Police (LSP) have closed I-20 eastbound from exit 23 (the Industrial Drive exit) to exit 38 (the Goodwill Road exit in Bossier and Webster Parishes).Traffic will be diverted from I-20 eastbound to US 80.

Troopers say I-20 will remain closed until travel conditions improve.

"Roadways across Louisiana, especially portions of Central and North Louisiana, remain highly impassable and dangerous for vehicular travel," a post from state police reads. "These are unprecedented times, and we need the communities assistance and cooperation."

In Acadiana, I-10 from I-49 in Lafayette to Baton Rouge remains closed due to icy conditions.
