New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in a press conference on Tuesday that the city won't host any large events for the remainder of 2020.
Cantrell said in the conference that a certain amount of social distancing will continue for some time, reports WBRZ.
"My recommendation is absolutely no large events such as French Quarter Fest and Jazz Fest, even Essence Festival, as it relates to the year 2020," the mayor said.
Many festivals had been rescheduled for the fall, in hopes that large groups would be able to gather by then.
Cantrell said she has not spoken to representatives of the NFL or NBA in terms of how her recommendation would affect the Saints or Pelicans seasons later this year.
